On April 28, 2017 Georgian International Arbitration Centre (GIAC) and Infrastructure Construction Companies’ Association (ICCA) hosted a working session on “Arbitration – Efficient Alternative to Litigation” at hotel “Radisson Blu Iveria“. Workshop was attended by the representatives and lawyers of Construction and Development Companies.
The main objective of the workshop was to raise awareness of arbitration institution as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism and to promote arbitration as a means of settling disputes controversial to traditional court litigation.
President of GCCI Nino Chikovani and Executive Director of ICCA Ana Sabakhtarishvili made welcoming remarks of the event, which was followed by the first topic of the workshop regarding general topics of arbitration and its characteristic in constriction disputes. The Secretary General, Beka Injia introduced alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, focusing on arbitration in general, along with the drafting techniques of the arbitration clause and its features.
The Second part of the event was dedicated to Georgian International Arbitration Centre, its general activities and procedural steps carried out by the parties in order to progress with their arbitration proceedings. Further, speakers discussed newly drafted Fast Track Arbitration Rules, which is tailored to the needs of business in general and serves as an effective means for dispute resolution.
Presentations were followed by discussion, during which the participants were able to engage into discussion with the speakers, raise questions of their interest and receive answers regarding dispute resolution issues for construction companies.
