WORKSHOP ON EFFECTIVE PLANNING OF THE ARBITRATION PROCEEDINGS

Tbilisi. May 8, 2019: Georgian International Arbitration Centre hosted a workshop on Effective Planning of the Arbitration Proceedings. The workshop was attended by the local practitioners and arbitrators.

GIAC’s Secretary General – Beka Injia opened the workshop, giving further floor to Liana Kartsivadze – UNDP, David Khachvani – Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler, Maka Gotsiridze – Ministry of Justice of Georgia and Giga Batlidze – BLC Law Office. The panelists discussed the impact and consequences of the first procedural conference and importance and content of the related documents, such as Terms of Reference and Procedural Order.

Besides, the Secretariat has present GIAC Model Terms of Reference, which aims to guide arbitrators under GIAC Rules in drafting the document.

The last part of the workshop was devoted to the Q&A session, during of which the participants discussed the synergy of mediation and arbitration, especially as the draft Georgian Law on Mediation is submitted to the Parliament for adoption. Moreover, the benefits of using arbitration for the commercial disputes and some practical aspects of arbitrators’ work were in the spotlight.

The event was held with the generous support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
